Did You Know...
Biker Bulletin Board's purpose is to keep the biking community "in the know" of what's going on.  BBB is not political, but informative.  We have fellow bikers fighting for our rights in Tallahassee and, hopefully, legislators...helmets, tag orientation, LEDs, etc.  YOU need to know...

Community Events at Thunder Beach Bike Rally
By Josie Ferraioli/Biker Bulletin Board

When you look around the local biker community, you will find some of the most caring and giving folks!  So when Thunder Beach rolls around twice a year – just imagine ALL the caring and giving bikers, from all over, come to support Thunder Beach’s community events!!

During Thunder Beach, there is a Poker Run, each day, to support a club’s group of interest.

•  Thursday, the Shriners Poker Run benefits their children’s’ programs
•  Friday, Defenders LEMC (law enforcement & emergency folks) benefit Project 25, which supports needy   families in the community, especially around Christmas, they buy toys for needy children
•  Saturday, Red Knights MC & Fire and Iron MC benefit Fallen Firefighters, children and families that            need support after the loss or injury of a family member in the fire fighting profession.

One of the most inspirational events occurs on Saturday, the Sgt Kevin Kight Memorial Parade.  This event has special significance to the Panama City Beach community as it serves to remember a fallen local hero, Sgt Kevin Kight, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty, on March 27, 2005, while making a traffic stop on Front Beach Road.  This memorial parade attracts approximately 2,000 bikers annually.  The White Sands Riders coordinate this event with the Panama City Beach Police Department.  Participants are urged to make cash donations as well as canned/non-perishable goods that are given to needy families throughout Bay County area through the Cops and Kids program.

Results for the 2011 Spring Rally are as follows:

Shriners, for their Hayseeds project:  110 bikes participated; $300 to best hand; $250 worst hand; 50/50 $275.  They made $1046 for the Hayseeds project!!

Defenders LEMC, Project 25:  153 bikes participated; $300 to best hand; $175 worst hand; 50/50 $150  They made $905 for Project 25!

Red Knights MC & Fire and Iron MC, Fallen Firefighters:  152 bikes participated; $150 to best hand; $75 worst hand; 50/50 $170 and $175 was donated back to cause.  They made $1300 for Fallen Firefighters!

Sgt. Kevin Kight Memorial Parade, for Cops and Kids:  700+ bikes participated; $497.16 cash donations and lots of canned/non-perishable goods, too!

Thank you to all who have supported these community events!!

Just a little thing to read....
We need to fight invasive legislation. They may not be targeting you this time, but...

"First they came for the chopper rider,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a chopper rider.

Then they came for the off roaders,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't an an off-roader.

Then they came for the sport bikers,
and I didn't speak because I wasn't a sport biker.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me."

This was submitted anonymously to our news letter. I think it speaks volumes. Wish I had written it. I thank the author.

We all will eventually need someone to speak for us. JUNE 14th, 2011 is your chance to just show up. Last year a drunk driver killed a local biker in Santa Rosa County and ran. He was caught, tried and recently convicted. On JUNE 14th his day will come. No matter what your religious beliefs are; his judgement day is near. He is facing several years if the guidelines are followed. We have never had an issue with Santa Rosa Courts in their enforcement of the law. However, this must not be the first. When the Jury was being selected the jury pool was asked several questions. Two of them were "Are you familiar with ABATE?" and " Do you know what ABATE stands for?" These, of course, are paraphrases of the version I was given. To make it very clear... amoung other mantras ABATE stands for the DEMAND of EQUAL TREATMENT under the law on the highways. As a result all motorists benefit from our fight against injustice. Our Motorcycle Safety and Awareness program is copyrighted and is displayed throughout the State of Florida. Fortunately for our CAUSE; we have the well appreciated and needed support of many bikers outside of ABATE of Florida, Inc. We love the brotherhood and sisterhood experienced, especially on the Gulf Coast.
The courts know of us and what we stand for. They expect and are planning on us being there in large numbers. As a result they have moved the sentencing to a larger courtroom. We do not riot, cause disrepect, or violate laws in our court appearances. We simply show our solidarity by being there.
I am asking, as the President of the Gulf Coast Chapter of ABATE of Florida, Inc., that you all be there. Every man or woman that has lost someone due to a drunk driver needs to be there. You do not have to be a biker. You do not even have to support ABATE's beliefs.
IT IS SIMPLE...just remember these words..."They came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me."
Do not let APATHY be the controlling emotion in the murdering of our Brothers, Sisters, loved ones and all free citizens.
We will be forming at the court house at 12:30 to 1pm on Tuesday June 14th at the Santa Rosa Courthouse on Hwy 90 in Milton Florida. We will have to go through security so be prepared for metal detectors. The hearing is at 2pm.
They expect us, so let us not let them down.....
Ride safe, free and especially aware/God Bless us all as the Crusade to save lives continues....
